Has The Cure's Robert Smith lost his mind???

Maybe it was for the money, maybe it's the fame or maybe it's a strong case of apathy. Whatever it was, according to Entertainment Weekly The Cure front man Robert Smith will reportedly collaborate with Ashlee Simpson in her upcoming album.

Now if you haven't thrown up yet, continue reading. It seems that little miss Simpson will be releasing her third album with the help of Smith, rapper-producer Timbaland, soul singer/songwriter John Legend, pop-recording artist Kenna, and producer/musician Chad Hugo of The Neptunes.

Now on a side note it's quite fashionable these days to collaborate with Timbaland. This man has worked wonders with today’s pop sensations. Remember Nelly Furtado when she was like a bird? It was sort of contemporary folk- early morning VH1 style. Now she’s a promiscuous girl that’s got every club-hopping diva shaking their booty. Timbaland’s infectious dance beats have remolded Furtado, perfected Timberlake and may even resurrect Britney Spears for her ‘comeback’. It may not happen but Timbaland has vocalized his interest to Entertainment Weekly.com explaining that he wants to “take her away, go overseas, and work it out.”

It’s no wonder Simpson wants his help; she may need all she can. But wait? I thought Miss Ashlee was a punk princess? The dark child of the Simpson family who is die hard rocker decked with cute little skulls and hot pink and black gear? But with collaborations featuring Hugo, Legend, and Timbaland, could it be she wants her music to be blared in da clubs too?

It’s true; we should give Ashlee a break. She’s had it rough and tough these past years. The lip-syncing, the booing at the Orange Bowl, the plastic surgery accusations; it’s a tough life the path of fame. She’s just trying to burst out of her pouty lipped big sister’s shadow.

But Ashlee may be doing something to piss off music lovers everywhere-the collaboration with the legendary Robert Smith. The news is pretty hard to swallow, what will come out of this?

The Cure is the cornerstone for the 80s post-punk, new wave scene. Robert Smith and all his smeared lipstick glory has paved the way for bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction and My Chemical Romance.

With hits like ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, ‘Just Like Heaven’, and ‘Close to Me’, The Cure gave birth to some of the most romanticized pieces of abstract rock art for pure radio bliss.

But now this? Just how much money is Joe Simpson spitting out at these artists? Maybe Smith just feels bad, or maybe he truly wants to help. But remember, I did say “reportedly” so let’s hope it’s just a dreadful, horrifying rumor.

If not, just remember dear readers: It doesn't matter if you can’t carry a tune or play an instrument, or if you lack any talent at all and just a total poser-if your daddy has money then reach for the stars.
