Skip work, Go Skating!!

Ok, so I can't skip work, shukies, but today June 21st is Go Skateboarding Day (GSB) founded by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC).

Go Skateboarding Day is a way for skateboarders to enjoy their passion without the heckling of Johnny Law.

An event will be held in downtown Reno today from noon until 10 p.m. featuring a skateboarding scavenger hunt, contests and the premiere of Element's second video "This is my Element" this evening at 8 p.m.

A skate competition with a mini ramp contest will be at 3.p.m. with prizes provided by the World Boardshop.

Events will be held near World Boardshop on First street, as well as Wingfield Park and Idlewild Park.

100.9 KRZQ will be broadcasting live from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

According to KRZQ, events will be occurring and most skate parks today in Reno.

ABOUT GO SKATEBOARDING DAY

Go Skateboarding Day (GSD), held on June 21, is the official holiday of skateboarding. The holiday began June 21, 2004 as an excuse for skateboarders to skip their obligations, go skateboarding and have fun!

Founded by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC), Go Skateboarding Day gives passionate skateboarders who embody skateboarding, as well as those who are simply inspired by skateboarding, the opportunity to drop everything and get on a skateboard. GSD is a cooperative of decentralized events that take place around the globe. Skateboard retailers, manufacturers, skateparks, distributors, organizations and individuals of all colors, creeds, and attitudes hold skateboarding events to celebrate the holiday.

GSD originated as the day for skateboarders to have fun, to raise awareness about the issues we face, to show the world what skateboarding is really all about, to reclaim our culture and to define skateboarding as the rebellious, creative celebration of independence it continues to be.
