Indie rock and hip-hop comes together to make a surprising hit
Take one part Indie rockers Modest Mouse's laid back, potential stoner anthem, "Fire it up", one part Louisiana rapper Lil' Wayne's blazing single, "Fireman", and the combination is a towering inferno.
Two very different music genres have come together with The Hood Internet, creating an impressive juxtaposition that's popping up all over the web.
Of course mashups are nothing new in the music world; with its popularity in clubs growing over the last couple years, but The Hood Internet has produced mashups of popular Indie and hip-hop songs that sound like an actual collaboration. Chicago DJs STV SLV & ABX have brought together the best of both worlds with music that fans of either genre can groove to.
The site is updated almost daily with dozens of mashups featuring Swedish electronic duo The Knife and Atlanta rap group Trillville, Atlanta R&B singer Lloyd and Indie pixie Fiest, rapper/actor Ludacris and Brazilian MCs Bonde do Role, rapper/producer Timbaland and English electro-poppers Hot Chip, and R&B singer R. Kelly and Canadian Indie rockers Broken Social Scene-one of the best song's on the site.
Check out The Hood Internet, a celebration of all things good and the possible positive future of the music industry.
