Eye-popping "cartoon couture" by Cassette Playa
The future of fashion is here, and it's getting bigger, brighter and more outrageous than ever. Carri Mundane is a British artist and fashion designer, known as Cassette Playa, and she's quickly becoming the hottest new designer that's infecting the london underground scene.
Using a concoction of early 90s chroma featuring safety orange, florescent lime green and soda pop purple, Mundane's imaginative cerebra has brought elements of early video games, psychedelia and the nu rave movement.
Nu rave you say? Didn't that mess die out in the late 90s? Over in London, a new wave of talent is emerging using pixel designs and hallucinogenic colors to transform the sense of style for a mental and visual overload enough to insight seizures.
Mundane's mind-tripping designs have already conquered Tokyo, London, Copenhagen and are taking over New York along with the nu-rave scene featuring early 90s track suits, colored tights and bright neon Reeboks. Remember Neneh Cherry-well think her, dipped in a liquidized Crayola box (sans brown and black), put into a sonic-the-hedgehog video game and fed LSD.
Only Mundane creates the experience of an uncontrollable acid-trip without taking drugs. She creates these digital prints as entertainment for the eye and mind, her clothes featured in London's fashion week earlier this year.
Not only has Mundane's fashion raided the youth of London, she also designs clothes for English Sri Lanka born rapper/singer M.I.A, Nu Rave punks The Klaxons and Sh*tDisco.
It's true this style is hard to pull off, especially in Reno, but I wouldn't be surprised if in the next few years, or even in 2008, you'll see the trend on all the kids of the downtown nightlife. Ladies, if you look a little deeper at Wet Seal you'll notice the colors hidden in the racks...it's coming.
See more of her imaginative designs here, featuring her trademark pineal eye.
or here.
Here is a piece on her from Topmanzine.
Watch out, Cassette Play's website may make your eyes bleed. So will M.I.A's.
