777 Kids Rock the Arts

This post was written by Michael Sion, who sent me his coverage of the Artown event "777 Kids Rock the Arts." He's the proud poppa of the two younger Sions mentioned below. Thanks Mike for sending us this. If you have something to report post it here...

"777 Kids Rock the Arts" drew more than 100 attendees for the Artown event held at 7 p.m. July 7 at the KNPB-TV building on North Virginia Street. The irrepressible artistic talent of Reno's teens was showcased, as fine arts and crafts were sold (all proceeds going to the teens), computer animation and a short video movie were screened, and live music was performed by the Add+Ons and Bank of Bedlam. The Add+Ons are Aaron Sion, 13, guitars/vocals; Daniel Sion, 15, drums; and Rob Pellicciarini, 15, bass/vocals. Bank of Bedlam is singer-guitarist sisters Amber Scala, 14, and Holly Scala, 12. All attend Reno's public schools. Proving that teen rockers appreciate their roots, the Add+Ons performed two raucous sets that included The Who's "My Generation," Green Day's "Welcome to Paradise," "Minority" and "Basket Case," Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings," and the Beatles' version of "Twist and Shout" — which had the crowd of adults and youths twisting instead of moshing. The Add+Ons also performed an original number: "Synthetic."
Bank of Bedlam played two original, folk-tinged songs, and was backed by the Add+Ons on "99 Red Balloons."
